Abstract

How to prolong the multimedia application based on multi-hop wireless mesh networks powered by finite energy resource is a critical issue. In this paper, we propose a new approach to extend network lifetime by maximizing energy-balancing between routers while satisfying minimal multimedia service quality requirement. Specifically, a new channel coding scheduling algorithm is proposed to allocate the optimal channel coding redundancy to each multimedia packet to achieve both the maximal energy-balancing of the network and the lower bound of multimedia Quality of Service (QoS) requirement. The simulation results show that the proposed approach can significantly improve the energy balancing of the multi-hop wireless mesh networks.
